Executive Board Roles and Responsibilities
President
The President’s primary role is to oversee the overall progress of the group, and advise and assist the Directors as needed. The President organizes and leads Executive Board meetings as well as General Body meetings. The President serves as the primary point of contact with the Northeastern Police Department and with the group advisor, Domenic Corey. The President also ensures that NUEMS remains in good standing with the University, fulfilling all organizational requirements with SABO (Student Activities Business Office) and the Student Activities Office.
Vice President
The Vice President’s primary role is to support the President in management of the club. They serve as a backup contact when the President is unavailable.
Treasurer
The Treasurer works under the Director of Human Resources. The Treasurer oversees the NUEMS account within SABO and handles all monetary transactions. The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining current eligibility with SABO by attending required semesterly training sessions and other requirements as mandated by SABO. The Treasurer works closely with the President to ensure transparency of group funds and develop financial plans for NUEMS.
Presidential Advisors
The Presidential Advisor's role is unique to this organization. To be held by a member chosen from a past Executive Board (who departed in good standing) by the outgoing Executive Board, the Presidential Advisor works with the current President and Executive Board to ensure continuity between Executive Board transitions. This position should be recognized as holding significant sway in the matters of the Executive Board, although this is a non-voting position. The Presidential Advisor also utilizes past and present networking contacts in order to further the goals of NUEMS, and endeavors to provide guidance to all officers in NUEMS. Furthermore, the Presidential Advisor attempts to cultivate personal relationships among all members of NUEMS and counsel any member who seeks it. This position does not need to be occupied if there are not well-qualified and interested candidates.
Director of Operations
The Director of Operations is generally responsible for all operational activities of the group. The Director of Operations is responsible for obtaining and fulfilling EMS coverage contracts with the University, especially with athletic events. The Director of Operations works closely with the President in preparing and planning for the implementation of a Class V ambulance, and ensures continuous compliance with all Massachusetts and Northeastern University rules and regulations, especially those required by OEMS (MA Office of Emergency Medical Services). The Director of Operations performs QA/QI duties until such time that call volume requires creation of a separate position for this duty. The Director of Operations oversees the Scheduling Coordinator, Equipment Manager, manages the distribution of uniforms, and assists as necessary.
Assistant Director of EMS Operations
Assists Director of EMS Operations with management of shift commanders and field crews. Serves as stand-in chief when the Director of EMS Operations is unavailable. The Assistant Director of EMS Operations provides operational support to the Director of Operations and Operations Department. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to, management of field crews and shift commanders, ensuring that all AEDs around campus are working and compliant, and working with the Executive Board and general body to achieve operational goals. The Assistant Director of EMS Operations is responsible for having a definitive knowledge of all policies and procedures regarding NUEMS Operations.
Equipment Manager
The Equipment Manager works closely with the Director of Operations to ensure equipment is response-ready at all times, quickly resolve equipment issues, and prepare supply orders in conjunction with the Treasurer. This role tracks checklists filled out by crews prior to standby events for completeness and need for equipment replacement.
Shift Scheduling Manager
The Scheduling Manager will conduct scheduling for all EMS operations such as, but not limited to, active duty crews, standby details, and event staffing. In the first week of each month NUEMS members shall fill out a shift bid form with shift requests for the following month, created and sent out to all active members by the Scheduling Manager. Timely confirmation will be sent to appropriate members to confirm assignment of bid shifts.
Director of Human Resources
The Director of Human Resources is primarily responsible for maintaining the positive reputation of NUEMS in the NU community, Greater Boston, and among other colleges. The Director of Human Resources is also the primary contact person between NUEMS and outside groups, agencies, businesses, and other entities not specifically affiliated with another NUEMS Department. The Director of Human Resources oversees the Public Relations Officer and Treasurer and assists as necessary. The Director of Human Resources is also generally responsible for all membership and intragroup management. The Director of Human Resources works closely with the President and other Directors to plan weekly General Body meetings. The Director of Human Resources manages the group email account (northeasternems@gmail.com) as well as Engage. The Director of Human Resources is the primary point of contact between the General Body and the Executive Board. The Director of Human Resources oversees the Public Relations and Member Affairs Officer and Treasurer and assists as necessary.
Member Affairs Officer
The Member Affairs Officer works under the Director of Human Resources, and is primarily responsible for maintaining current and complete records of membership information, including ensuring validity and expiration status of relevant certifications. The Member Affairs Officer also serves as a point of contact and liaison between the Executive Board and General Body. The Member Affairs Officer may also work with the Department of Education to publicize and promote course offerings to the general membership. The Member Affairs Officer may also work with the Director of Human Resources and Web Administrator to manage the NUEMS website, if applicable.
Public Relations Officer
The Public Relations Officer works under the Director of Human Resources, and is primarily responsible for managing the NUEMS Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, including regular updates about meetings, events, and posting photos. The Public Relations Officer may also work with the Department of Education to publicize and promote course offerings to the general public. The Member Affairs and Public Relations Officer may also work with the Director of Human Resources and Web Administrator to manage the NUEMS website, if applicable.
Web Administrator
The Web Administrator works under the Director of Human Resources and is responsible for the creation and maintenance of this website. The web administrator is also responsible for the technological needs for the group, including electronic forms.
Director of Education
The Director of Education oversees all educational activities of NUEMS, especially CPR courses and Continuing Education courses. The Director of Education ensures that appropriate rooms and equipment are secured for all classes. The Director of Education ensures that group members interested in teaching opportunities are able to pursue these avenues by providing Teaching Assistant opportunities as well as AHA Instructor Courses. The Director of Education serves as the primary liaison between NUEMS and any outside organization that provides education to NUEMS members. The Director of Education oversees the CPR Coordinator and Director of Clinical Training and assists as necessary.
CPR Coordinators
The CPR Coordinators are primarily responsible for coordinating all CPR classes run by NUEMS. This includes scheduling classes, assigning instructors and TA’s, and maintaining NUEMS contracts with other on-campus groups and departments. The CPR Coordinators work closely with the Director of Education to set up classes and with the Treasurer to process income from classes.
Training Officers
The Training Officers are primarily responsible for coordinating instructors and locations for OEMS-approved continuing education courses. They work closely with the Director of Education to ensure quality presentations, lectures, and training opportunities for the club. They should be familiar with national and state EMT skills and protocols.
Clinical Training Coordinator
The Clinical Training Coordinator is responsible for organizing clinical training opportunities for general body. They may work with the training officers to create hands-on training scenarios for lectures, organize simulations for members to participate in, and help review or train members on clinical skills.
